It's exciting in this day and age when every square foot of the earth is surveyed we can still find 125,000 low land gorillas deep in the forests in Africa. Now can we just leave them alone?!

From the page: "In recent years, Americans have been concerned about what's in Chinese products, including the food we eat and the toys we buy. In China, a small but growing number of people are worried about the same issues. You can see one result of this growing concern at an organic farm about 15 miles south of the city of Chengdu, in China's southwestern Sichuan province. The farm is called Fruit Garden, Fragrant Pig. Luo Yu is the farm's 37-year-old owner. Slim, with wire-frame glasses, he is an unlikely farmer. He used to be a stockbroker earning several thousand U.S. dollars a month..."

Fully support countries sustain their own food system. "Twenty years ago, the international institutions told us that there was no sense, you know, in producing grain," Galo says. "We better buy them and bring them from outside. In the last two decades, grain producers went broke."

Leave it to the Brits to make everything funny, even a push mower. From the page: "How can I persuade my husband to use a push mower? Target his weakness. Is he a touch sensitive about his growing tummy? Point out that according to Which? magazine, cutting a lawn with a push mower allows a 60kg person to burn 360 calories an hour. If your husband counts the pennies, emphasise that it costs an average of 20p every 100ml of fuel for a mower with a petrol tank and about 4p for every 20 minutes that you use a 1700W electric mower."

Clearly, nerds are taking over the world :) From the page: "Baseball and politics are two of David Plouffe's passions. So it was natural that his love for one game reinforced something that proved crucial in the other: Singles can score runs. As Sen. Barack Obama's campaign manager, Plouffe was the mastermind behind a winning strategy that looked well past Super Tuesday's contests on Feb. 5 and placed value on large and small states."

I am giving up salmon as well. From the page: "Not any more. Wild Atlantic salmon are commercially extinct, and runs of Pacific salmon south of the Alaska panhandle are experiencing catastrophic collapses. This year, for the sake of the remaining wild salmon on the West Coast, as well as my own health, I'm changing my diet. Whether it's wild or farmed, I'm swearing off salmon."

From the page: " For a housing market wracked with uncertainty, green is good. That was on display Monday when Pinn Brothers Fine Homes unveiled the first single-family subdivision in San Jose to meet a new standard for green homes. Most of what makes them green is hard to see - features such as water-saving shower heads and thicker insulation in the attic and walls. But the integrated solar roofs - standard on all 51 homes at Orchard Heights in San Jose's Evergreen area and on 19 homes at Falcon Place in Willow Glen - are an obvious signal that something green is afoot."
